
The Early Large-flowering cultivars bloom in late spring/early summer on wood ripened from the previous season. A light pruning after the first period of flowering encourages another round of flowering later in the summer to early autumn. Some varieties produce flowers almost continuously throughout the summer.
The Late Large-flowering cultivars produce their flowers from early summer to autumn. In warmer zones the flowering begins in early summer and in colder climates in mid-summer. Many re-bloom if lightly pruned and fertilized after they flower. Prune hard in early spring to encourage flowers on new growth.
